ALERT: AVOID WACK WORLD!

Another great interview with Dame Dash. He really speaks some positive stuff in here.

The current state of hip-hop?

Lupe Fiasco – Enemy Of The State: A Love Story

The state of Hip Hop, actually music in general is pretty terrible. Even your favorite artist who Might have done something dope and got a (little / lot of) recognition, what are they doing now? Are they still evolving, growing, question the state of things? Much of the popular music that is out now sounds like people acting out roles. Oh I’m the new Madonna, Oh I’m the new Kanye, I am the new this, I’m the new that! You hear enough of this mindless repetition and after a while what do you have left? It is like when you take a photocopy and photocopy it. Then imagine doing that a thousand times over. Is it safer to give society what they “think” they want when they don’t even know anymore?

I was somewhat concerned with the little pieces I have been hearing from the new Lupe album LAZERS due out sometime early 2010. I suspected he might be falling victim to his own fame and fan base. Well out of nowhere, Lupe Fiasco drops Enemy Of The State: A Love Story. He is going hard on this one. This album shows you not only in music, but in life in general someone is doing something else and it’s up to you to look for what you want to see. Based on the lyrics in this mixtape it is clear Lupe decided to be the change he would like to see in the world rather than complain about. So perhaps it isn’t a question of is there the space for this, but perhaps it’s more important that we are looking with new eyes that don’t have all the answers.

Music in general might be terrible, however that indicates some great things are about to come. The Lupe Fiasco – Enemy Of The State: A Love Story Mixtape is a beacon in the current state of hip hop. Make room.

“I’ll do the register, you just get them fries right.
I don’t trust America, after watchin’ Zeitgeist.” – Lupe: Turnt Up (Freestyle)
